What we do

The Georgie Campbell Foundation aims to support the sustainable future of the equestrian sport of eventing, the sport Georgie loved, by:

  • Helping to improve rider and horse safety by supporting the roll out of frangible devices that enable cross country fences to collapse on impact to reduce the risk of rotational falls
  • Providing event riders with support to establish and run early-stage eventing businesses through the provision of:
    • Tailored mentorship
    • Educational training
    • Vocational coaching
    • Grants

"The Foundation enables us to give back to the sport Georgie loved, provides a positive channel for our pain, and helps to keep Georgie’s memory alive"

- Jo Williams, Georgie’s older sister and GCF Trustee

Rider support

Support will be as bespoke as possible to rider’s individual needs, including:

  • All areas of financial management
  • Legal and HR compliance
  • Gaining and maintaining sponsorship
  • Identifying young horse talent
  • Bringing on young horses
  • On-the-ground safety training for riders and staff
  • Managing staff
  • USP and branding development

"Georgie was the first rider to take a Cooley horse to 5* and fundamental in getting the Cooley brand to where it is now. Without doubt the world is missing a star, but a star that will never be forgotten"

Apply to the foundation

If you are at an early stage with your eventing business, registered with BE, and competing at 3* level or above, you are invited to apply to be a Georgie Campbell Foundation (GCF) beneficiary.

GCF beneficiaries will receive bespoke mentoring, educational training, and bursary support for an initial 2-year term, with the opportunity to extend to a 3rd year.

"There is so much more to running an eventing business than many people realise. The hours, work, persistent highs and lows, how to run a team, and dealing with people. Many of us didn’t know what we didn’t know when starting out and this is where the Foundation can help future generations"

Georgie

Georgie Campbell (née Strang) was a five-star event rider who loved her horses with all her heart. Tragically Georgie died doing what she loved in a rotational fall at Bicton International Horse Trials on 26 May 2024 at the age of 36.

Georgie was fun, optimistic, kind, bubbly, joyful, mischievous, loving, with the most generous laugh and beautiful energy. She was a multi-talented sportswoman and lit up every room.

Following childhood successes in Pony Club and showing, Georgie achieved a huge amount during her eventing career. This included numerous international wins and top placings on many different horses.

Some of the most notable are:

  • Making her 5* debut at Burghley in 2010 with Master Monarch
  • 3rd at Bokelo 2014 with Cooley Business Time, going on to be part of the winning Nations Cup team in Ballindenisk 2015, and completing Burghley later that year
  • On the 2nd placed Nations Cup team at Houghton with Cooley Earl in 2017, and completing Pau 2017 and Badminton 2018 as well as finishing 2nd in the Hickstead Eventers Challenge in 2018
  • Winning the 4* in Lignières with Global Quest in 2022
  • And many great results at 4* and Advanced with Ascot H, Red Hot Cooley, Darcy de la Rose, and Speedwell to name a few
